Brampton pest calls are dominated by rodents, ants, and cockroaches, and the housing stock explains most of it. The fast-built subdivisions in Mount Pleasant, Springdale and Castlemore sit on former farmland next to active construction and open field edges, and mice move indoors through small gaps as that land gets developed. The 1960s–70s planned community of Bramalea and the older core around Snelgrove have the settled grade and aging service penetrations that let rats establish. Homes backing onto Heart Lake Conservation Area carry steady squirrel and raccoon pressure from the adjacent woodland.

For ants, identifying the species comes before any treatment. Carpenter ants are the large black ones, 10 to 15 mm, and they tunnel galleries into wood that moisture has already softened — a slow window leak, condensation on a poorly insulated exterior wall, or drainage sitting against the foundation. They eject coarse frass, like brown sawdust with darker flecks, from small openings. Pavement and odorous house ants are much smaller, trail along baseboards and counters, and typically nest outside in soil under driveways, paving stones and foundation edges, coming in only to forage. Spraying the visible trail leaves the colony intact in both cases.

Brampton ant activity runs on the same annual cycle as the rest of the GTA: colonies wake as the ground warms through March and April, foraging peaks over the summer, and it winds down through the autumn. Winged ants indoors in spring usually mean a nest is already inside the structure, and ants still active in a heated home in mid-winter mean the same, since outdoor colonies are dormant by then.

Basement apartments change the picture, and Brampton has a lot of them. A secondary suite adds a second kitchen, more entry points, and shared plumbing runs, which give mice and cockroaches extra harbourage and travel routes between the two units. Treatment has to cover both, or the population simply moves between floors.
