Pest Control in Whitby

Whitby pest control calls range from mice and rats entering established homes to ants, cockroaches, bed bugs, wasps, raccoons, and squirrels. Ants are one of the most common Whitby calls, and the species matters more than the count. Carpenter ants — the large black ants, 10 to 15 mm — excavate galleries in wood that has been softened by moisture, so in the older housing around downtown Whitby and Brooklin they tend to show up where a window frame, sill, or roofline has been taking water for a while. The tell is coarse frass, like brown sawdust mixed with darker debris, pushed out of a small hole. Pavement and odorous house ants are the smaller ones that trail along baseboards and counters; they usually nest outdoors in soil under slabs, driveways, and foundation edges, and come in to forage. Treating the trail you can see does nothing to the colony in either case.

The timing follows the season. Colonies come out of dormancy as the ground warms through March and April, foraging peaks over the summer, and activity tapers in the fall. Winged ants indoors in spring generally mean a nest is already established in the structure. Ants still moving through a heated Whitby home in January or February point the same way, because outdoor colonies here are dormant by then.

Relocating a raccoon to Lynde Shores is not an option under Ontario law — captured wildlife must be released within 1 km of the capture site, within 24 hours, and only with the landowner's permission — which is why sealing the entry point is the only fix that holds.
