Why Local Knowledge Matters

Pest behavior varies significantly depending on the environment. A rat infestation in a downtown restaurant requires a completely different strategy than raccoon removal in a suburban attic.

From Unionville, Markham Village, Cornell to the rest of Markham, knowing the local housing stock and geography — older homes, ravine corridors, waterfront — lets us find entry points faster and keep pests from coming back.

Serving Markham, answered

Straight answers to what Markham homeowners ask us most.

We're in Cornell or Box Grove near Rouge Park — why so much wildlife?
Eastern Markham borders the Rouge River valley and Rouge National Urban Park, a large protected corridor of forest, wetland and farmland. That puts homes right next to natural habitat, so raccoons and squirrels travel those green edges and look for attics and chimneys to den in, especially in spring.
Our home is in a newer Markham subdivision — are we still at risk?
Yes. Newer builds aren't immune; gaps around rooflines, vents, weep holes and garage junctions still let mice, rats and ants in, and exterior wildlife pressure is higher where subdivisions back onto green belts and stormwater ponds. We inspect each home individually.
I live in heritage Unionville or Markham Village — does the older housing change things?
It can. Older heritage homes tend to have more settling cracks, original wood and small gaps that favour mice and carpenter ants. We tailor the treatment to the specific building rather than applying a one-size plan.
Can you just trap the raccoon and release it in the countryside?
No — Ontario law requires captured wildlife to be released within 1 km of capture and within 24 hours. Relocating it far away isn't legal and doesn't solve the problem, because another animal moves into the same opening. We use humane one-way doors and then seal the entry points.
