Why Local Knowledge Matters

Pest behavior varies significantly depending on the environment. A rat infestation in a downtown restaurant requires a completely different strategy than raccoon removal in a suburban attic.

From Kew Beach, Balmy Beach, Woodbine Beach to the rest of The Beaches, knowing the local housing stock and geography — older homes, ravine corridors, waterfront — lets us find entry points faster and keep pests from coming back.

Serving The Beaches, answered

Straight answers to what The Beaches homeowners ask us most.

Why do we get ants and mice in Beaches homes?
Much of the Beaches housing stock dates to the early 1900s — Victorian and Edwardian semis and detached homes — and decades of settling create gaps around foundations, windows and rooflines that ants and mice use to get in. Add the Queen East restaurant strip and the lakefront, and there's plenty of food and shelter nearby.
Does living near the lake and boardwalk affect pest activity?
It can. The Beaches sits right on Lake Ontario along the Woodbine and Kew boardwalk, and the mix of parkland, mature trees and an older restaurant strip on Queen East supports wildlife like raccoons and squirrels as well as rodents looking for food and den sites.
Is the rat problem reaching the east end?
Residents in the Woodbine and Danforth area just north of the Beaches have reported finding rats indoors, part of a citywide rise. We inspect for entry points and food sources and seal the gaps rodents use, rather than only baiting.
There's a raccoon in my attic — can you relocate it far away?
No. Ontario law requires captured wildlife to be released within 1 km of where it was caught, within 24 hours, and only with the landowner's permission — so relocating it across the city isn't legal or effective. We use a humane one-way door to let it out, then seal the entry points so it can't get back in.
